family drama part deux
mum: so are you coming home on weekends?
me: mmm depends. I might not, if I don't feel like it
mum: how are you gonna wash your clothes?
me: I'll learn
bro: see I told you she's not like her sister. she'll survive lah, don't worry (thanks bro. you're smelly and loud but I love you still)
mum: make sure you study hard. this is your final lap you know
me: I know, I know
dad: she knows
mum: I know (cue for everyone at the table to snicker because we all know she doesn't know that I know, you know?)
dad: sometimes you have to let the children go. you should trust them. tell them once and they'll remember
mum: yes I know (no you don't!) I just want to remind her. don't want her to regret. skali she fail her exams how?
me: I have never screwed my education up my whole life! (voice getting shrill) and I'm so old already I know how to take care of myself (here I'd like to remind everyone I'm only moving across this small island, not going overseas to the Bahamas)
mum: aiyah I know (again, no you don't.) but you must make sure you study look at your sister she's already graduated blablabla your grandmother my grandmother blablabla (I wasn't paying attention)
oh like I said, family's a funny thing. you can push each other's buttons and drive us all up the wall but eventually we make up because I know I'm stuck with you and you're stuck with me so even if you're irritating which you know you are and it goes both ways, I still love you because we. are. fa.mi.ly.
*insert cheesy Sister Sledge song*
